Copying, Cutting and Pasting Objects

Once you select one or more objects, you can perform various basic editing functions such as CopyCut and various Paste commands.

The Clipboard is a part of the system that temporarily stores selected objects when you choose the Copy or Cut command.

Whatever is on the Clipboard is replaced by the next selection you place there, including a selection placed by using the Cut or Copy command in another application.

To Copy or Cut and Paste Objects

  1. Select an object or objects that you want to copy or cut.

  2. Do one of the following:

  • Select Copy or Cut from the Clipboard panel in the Home tab of the Ribbon.

  • Press Ctrl+C for copy or Ctrl+X for cut.

  1. Do one of the following:

  • Click the top part of the Paste split button for the simple paste.

  • Press Ctrl+V for the simple paste.

  • Select another Paste command from the Paste drop-down list.

 

Command

Description

Copy (Ctrl+C)

Copies a selection to the Clipboard.

Cut (Ctrl+X)

Removes a selection and places it on the Clipboard.

Paste (Ctrl+V)

Places the Clipboard contents on the current page at the center of the screen.

Paste MetaObject

Places the Clipboard contents copied from another application as MetaObject on the current page at the center of the screen.

Paste Front

Places the Clipboard contents in front of the selected object.

Paste Behind

Places the Clipboard contents in the back of the selected object.

Paste in Place (Ctrl+Shift+V)

Places the Clipboard contents at the same position on another page

Paste Image

Places the Clipboard contents as image, even if the contents are in different formats, on the current page at the center of the screen.

Paste Formatted Text

Places the Clipboard contents in RTF format as formatted texts on the current page at the center of the screen or at the insertion point in the Text object.

Paste Text

Places the Clipboard contents of formatted texts as unformatted texts on the current page at the center of the screen or at the insertion point in the Text object.

Copying Selections in Objects and Pasting

Besides using Cut or Copy to place entire objects on the Clipboard, you can also use these commands to place selected parts of objects on the Clipboard and paste it.

  • Text selections made by highlighting text in a text object.

  • Segment selections made by selecting anchor points of vector objects in Path Edit mode.
