Using the Tool Defaults pane

You can set the default settings of the following tools in the Tool Default pane.

For instance, you want to add texts in Time New Roman, 12 pt, a dark gray. You can set the default setting of the Text tool as such.

There are 5 categories:

  • Text tools

  • Camera tool

  • Draw tools

  • Annotation tools

  • Dimensioning tools

To Open the Tool Defaults Pane

  • Select the Tool Defaults checkbox from the Panes panel in the View tab of the Ribbon.

Click the Launch button of the tool panels that have the categories in the Tool Default pane to open the category in it.

 

Example

To Set the Default Settings

  1. Expand the category that you want to set the default settings in by clicking  icon.

  2. Expand the tool section.

  3. Set the options.

When you use the tool, those settings will be used until you change the settings again.

For details on the settings of each tool, please refer to the section of each tool.

When the Tool Defaults pane is shown and you select one of the tools which have the default settings, that tool section will expand automatically in the pane.

For instance, Click the Linear Dimensioning tool, the section of the Linear Dimensioning tool expands in the Tool Defaults pane.

 

To Use the Same Tool Continuously

  • Select the Retain tool check box if it is available.

For instance, when you select the Retain tool for the Text tool, you can click and type, click and type to add texts repeatedly.

When it is not selected, you type with the Text tool. Clicking another position in the Page Layout area will exit the Text edit mode. The Selection tool will be automatically selected. Thus, you have to select the Text tool again to start adding another text.

To Expand or Collapse All Categories and Sections

  • Click  icon to expand.

  • Click  icon to collapse.

To Show Specific Properties Only

  • Type a keyword or keywords in the Search field.

  • Click X icon to remove the keywords and show all.
