Adding Lens Annotations

You can use Annotation Lens tool to annotate by magnifying and calling out specific areas of objects.

To Add a Lens Annotation

  1. Click Lens drop-down list from the Annotation Tools panel in the Insert tab of the Ribbon.

  2. Select a style preset from the Lens drop-down list.

  3. Click at the center point of interest on the object and drag out to place the lens.

  4. Press the Esc key to exit the mode if necessary.

When you use the current style setting which is listed first in the drop-down list, just click the top part of the Lens split button.

 

To Change the Magnification and Magnified View of Lens Object

  1. Select a Lens object.

  2. Click the Lens contextual tab of the Ribbon.

  3. Type a new magnification value in the Magnification Factor edit box.

  4. Select either Below Lens or All in Region from the Magnified View drop-down list.

Example - Magnification

Magnification Factor: 150%

Magnification Factor: 400%

Magnified View: Below Lens

The arrowhead indicates the yellow semi-transparent polygon is below the lens.

Thus, the yellow semi-transparent polygon is viewed in the lens.

Magnified View: Below Lens

The arrowhead indicates the yellow semi-transparent polygon is above the lens.

Thus, the yellow semi-transparent polygon is Not viewed in the lens.

Magnified View: All in Region

The arrowhead indicates the yellow semi-transparent polygon is above the lens.

Even so, the yellow semi-transparent polygon is viewed in the lens.

 

To Change the Lens View

  1. Select a Lens object.

  2. Click the Lens contextual tab of the Ribbon.

  3. Select either Absolute or Relative ratio button.

Example

Lens View: Absolute
When moving the Lens, the initial view is retained.

Lens View : Relative
When moving the Lens, the initial view will be changed relative to the movement.

 

To Reset the Lens View

  1. Select a Lens object.

  2. Click the Lens contextual tab of the Ribbon.

  3. Click Reset View.

         

     

To Set the Lens View

  1. Select a Lens object.

  2. Click the Lens contextual tab of the Ribbon.

  3. Click Set View.

         

  4. Click at a new center point of interest on the target object.

 

Set the new view does not adjust the position of the Smart Line pointing at.

 

To Adjust the Pointing Position (Center of Lens View)

  1. Select a Lens object.

  2. Click the Lens contextual tab of the Ribbon.

  3. Click Create View Area.

Example

The circle of blue dash outline is created at the view area.

  1. Enable the Smart Mouse – Center.

  2. Drag the end point of the Smart Line to the center of the view area.

 

When you move the target object of the lens, the lens view will be updated accordingly regardless that the Absolute radio button is selected.

When you delete the target object of the lens, the lens view will become blank.

 

When you need to move the target object of the lens, you can turn on the snapshot of the lens view.

To Turn on Snapshot Lens

  1. Select a Lens object.

  2. Click the Lens contextual tab of the Ribbon.

  3. Set the Resolution.

  4. Click Snapshot Lens.

    When it is turned on, the button gets highlighted.

When the Snapshot Lens is on, you can move the target object of the lens without changing the lens view.

 

You can turn on or off the Snapshot Lens as you need. However, if the target object of the lens is removed, turning it off will make the lens view blank.

 

To Add a Lens Style Preset for Annotation Lens Tool

  1. Select the Tool Defaults checkbox from the Panes panel in the View tab of the Ribbon.

  2. Expand the Annotation Tools category.

  3. Expand the Annotation Lens Tool.

  4. Set the options.

  5. If you want to save the current settings as a preset, type a preset name in the Preset field.

  6. Click  to add the preset.

The new preset will be added in the Preset drop-down list in the Tool Defaults pane as well as in the Annotation Lens tool’s drop-down list in the Ribbon.

 

Annotation Lens Tool Options

Options

Description

Magnification

Set the lens magnification factor in percentage from 0% to 1000%.

Magnified view

Select either Magnify All in Region or Magnify Below Lens

Lens shape

Select either RectangleRounded Rectangle, or Oval.

Lens width

Set the width of the Lens object. You can type a value with 2-letter unit like “2 in”. However, the value will be displayed in point.

Lens height

Set the height of the Lens object. You can type a value with 2-letter unit like “2 in”. However, the value will be displayed in point.

Lens frame color

Set the color of the outline of the selected lens shape from the pop-up color palette.

Lens frame weight

Type a weight value of the outline of the selected lens shape.

Lens frame dash

Set the dash of the outline of the selected lens shape from the drop-down list.

Connector color

Set the color of the Smart Line connector from the pop-up color palette.

Connector weight

Type a weight value of the Smart Line connector.

Connector arrow

Set the arrowheads of the Smart Line connector from the drop-down list.

Connector dash

Set the dash of the Smart Line connector from the drop-down list.

Preset

  • Type a preset name and click  to add the current setting as a preset.

  • Select one of the presets from the drop-down list and click  to delete it.

Retain tool

When you wan to use this tool repeatedly, select this checkbox. Press the Esc key to exit the mode anytime.
