Choosing Commands
When a procedure tells you to choose a command, the instruction is written:
Choose Home > Copy.
This is the short form of stating:
On the Home tab, click Copy.
For frequently used commands, you can use a keyboard shortcut if the command has one.
Some menu items open a submenu of related commands. When the documentation tells you to choose a submenu command, the instruction is written:
Choose Page Layout > Size > Letter.
From the Page Layout tab, click Size dropdown list, and choose Letter.
Click the Page Layout tab
Click the Size dropdown list
Choose Letter
This tells you to open the Page Layout tab, choose Size to open the submenu, and then choose the Letter command.
Choosing Commands in the Context Menu
You can choose commands from a menu that pops up wherever the pointer is in Canvas Envision. The commands in the menu are based on what you are doing; therefore, the menu is called the context menu.
Using Modifier Keys
For some actions, you need to press a keyboard key while you click or drag the mouse; e.g., to select several objects, press the Shift key while you click each object. This can be written as Shift-click. If you press the Ctrl key, for example, while you drag the mouse, the action can be written as Ctrl-drag.
Some instructions say to “right-click” an object. This means to click the object using the secondary button, usually the right button, on the mouse.
